को रहीम पर द्वार पै, जात न जिय सकुचात।
संपति के सब जात हैं, बिपति सबै लै जात ॥
रहीम कहते हैं कि संसार में ऐसा कौन व्यक्ति है, जो दूसरे के द्वार पर जाने में संकोच या झिझक न करता हो, लेकिन संकोच भी क्या, धनवान के द्वार पर तो सभी जाते हैं। हकीकत तो यह है कि लोग खुद अमीरों के दरवाजे पर नहीं जाते। विपदा ही उन्हें वहाँ ले जाती है।
कहने का भाव है- विपत्ति के समय ही व्यक्ति अमीर के दरवाजे पर जाता है। धनवान भी इस बात को जानते हैं और द्वार पर आये व्यक्ति को याचक नहीं बल्कि आश्रयदाता समझते हैं और प्रेमपूर्वक यथाशक्ति देकर उसे विदा करते हैं।

ko rahīma para dvāra pai, jāta na jiya sakucāta.
saṃpati ke saba jāta haiṃ, bipati sabai lai jāta.

Rahim says that there is no such person in the world who does not hesitate or hesitate in going to the door of others, but why hesitate, everyone goes to the door of the rich. The reality is that people themselves do not go to the doors of the rich. Only adversity takes them there.
The meaning of the saying is – A person goes to the door of the rich only in times of trouble. The rich people also know this and consider the person coming to the door not as a beggar but as a giver of shelter and send him off with love as much as they can.

मान सहित विष खाय के, संभु भए जगदीस ।
बिना मान अमृत पिए, राहु कटायो सीस ॥

अर्थात् रहीमदास जी कहते हैं कि जब शिव ने सम्मानपूर्वक विष पी लिया तो वे जगदीश कहलाये, लेकिन सम्मान न देने के कारण राहु ने अमृत पी लिया और उनका सिर काट दिया।

māna sahita viṣa khāya ke, saṃbhu bhe jagadīsa.
binā māna amṛta pie, rāhu kaṭāyo sīsa.

That is, Rahimdas ji says that when Shiva drank poison with respect, he was called Jagdish, but due to not giving respect, Rahu drank the nectar and cut off his head.

नाद रीझि तन देत मृग, नर धन देत समेत ।
ते रहिमन पसु ते अधिक, रीझेहुं कछु न देत ॥

अर्थात् रहीमदास जी कहते हैं कि संगीत की ध्वनि से मोहित होकर हिरण अपना शरीर शिकारी को सौंप देता है। और धन के कारण मनुष्य अपना जीवन खो देता है। परन्तु वे लोग भी उस जानवर से मरे, जो तृप्त होने पर भी कुछ नहीं देता।

nāda rījhi tana deta mṛga, nara dhana deta sameta.
te rahimana pasu te adhika, rījhehuṃ kachu na deta.

That is, Rahimdas ji says that the deer, fascinated by the sound of music, hands over its body to the hunter. And because of money man loses his life. But those people also died from that animal, which does not give anything even when satisfied.

बड़े बड़ाई ना करें, बड़ो न बोलें बोल ।
रहिमन हीरा कब कहै, लाख टका है मोल ॥

अर्थ :  रहीम कहते हैं कि जिनमें महानता होती है वे कभी अपना बखान नहीं करते। हीरे की तरह, चाहे वह कितना भी अनमोल क्यों न हो, वह कभी भी अपने मुँह से अपनी प्रशंसा नहीं करता।

baḍa़e baḍa़āī nā kareṃ, baḍa़o na boleṃ bola.
rahimana hīrā kaba kahai, lākha ṭakā hai mola.

Meaning :  Rahim says that those who have greatness never boast about themselves. Like a diamond, no matter how precious it is, he never praises himself with his mouth.

धन थोरो इज्जत बड़ी, कह रहीम का बात।
जैसे कुल की कुलवधु, चिथड़न माहि समात ॥

रहीमदास जी कहते हैं कि सम्मान पैसे से बड़ा है, अगर पैसा छोटा है, लेकिन सम्मान बड़ा है, तो यह कोई निन्दनीय बात नहीं है। घर की महिलाएँ चीथड़े पहनकर भी अपने सम्मान की रक्षा करती हैं।

dhana thoro ijjata baḍa़ī, kaha rahīma kā bāta.
jaise kula kī kulavadhu, cithaḍa़na māhi samāta.
Rahimdas ji says that respect is bigger than money, if money is small but respect is big, then it is not a condemnable thing. The women of the house protect their honor even by wearing rags.

दादुर, मोर, किसान मन, लग्यौ रहै धन मांहि।
पै रहीम चाकत रटनि, सरवर को कोउ नाहि ॥

कवियों ने चातक पक्षी का विरह चित्रण बड़े ही मार्मिक एवं हृदयग्राही ढंग से किया है। कवियों की दृष्टि में चातक की पुकार में विरह की प्रबल अभिव्यक्ति है। इस दोहे में रहीम ने चातक की पुकार को अतुलनीय बताया है।

रहीम कहते हैं, मेंढक, मोर और किसान का मन बादलों में ही लगा रहता है। आकाश में बादल आते ही मानो उन सबमें नवजीवन आ जाता है। बादलों के प्रति उनकी दीवानगी की तुलना चातक से नहीं की जा सकती। बादल को देखकर चातक का विरह मन पिया की याद में व्याकुल हो उठता है। उसकी व्याकुलता से यह सिद्ध होता है कि किसी अन्य का मन उसके जितना बादलों में नहीं रहता।

dādura, mora, kisāna mana, lagyau rahai dhana māṃhi.
pai rahīma cākata raṭani, saravara ko kou nāhi.

Poets have depicted the separation of Chatak bird in a very poignant and heart-touching manner. In the eyes of the poets, Chatak's call is a strong expression of separation. In this couplet, Rahim has described Chatak's call as incomparable.

Rahim says, the mind of the frog, peacock and farmer remains in the clouds. As soon as clouds appear in the sky, it seems as if new life comes to them all. His passion for clouds cannot be compared to Chatak. Seeing the cloud, Chatak's estranged mind becomes distraught remembering Piya. His restlessness proves that no one else's mind is as clouded as his.

कहा करौं बैकुंठ लै, कल्प बृच्छ की छाँह।
रहिमन ढाक सुहावनो, जो गल पीतम बाँह॥

अर्थ :  रहीमदास जी कहते हैं कि मुझे स्वर्ग का सुख और कल्पवृक्ष की छाया नहीं चाहिए, मुझे तो वह ढाक का पेड़ बहुत पसंद है जहाँ मैं अपने प्रियतम के गले से लगा कर बैठ सकता हूँ।

kahā karauṃ baikuṃṭha lai, kalpa bṛccha kī chāṁha.
rahimana ḍhāka suhāvano, jo gala pītama bāṁha.
Meaning :  Rahimdas ji says that I do not want the happiness of heaven and the shade of Kalpavriksha, I like the Dhak tree very much where I can sit hugging my beloved.

कहु रहीम केतिक रही, केतिक गई बिहाय।
माया ममता मोह परि, अन्त चले पछिताय ॥

अर्थात् रहीमदास जी कहते हैं कि जरा सोचो कि कितना जीवन बचाया और कितना बर्बाद किया क्योंकि माया, प्रेम और मोह संसार के क्षणिक सुख हैं लेकिन आध्यात्मिक सुख स्थायी सुख है।

kahu rahīma ketika rahī, ketika gī bihāya.
māyā mamatā moha pari, anta cale pachitāya.

That is, Rahimdas ji says that just think how much life has been saved and how much has been ruined because illusion, love and attachment are momentary happiness of the world but spiritual happiness is permanent happiness.

गुन ते लेत रहीम जन, सलिल कूप ते काढि।
कूपहु ते कहूँ होत है, मन काहू को बाढी॥

अर्थात रहीमदास जी कहते हैं कि जिस प्रकार गहरे कुएं से बाल्टी भरकर पानी निकाला जा सकता है, उसी प्रकार अच्छे कर्म करके किसी के भी हृदय में प्रेम पैदा किया जा सकता है।

guna te leta rahīma jana, salila kūpa te kāḍhi.
kūpahu te kahūṁ hota hai, mana kāhū ko bāḍhī.
That is, Rahimdas ji says that just as water can be taken out from a deep well with a bucket, similarly love can be created in anyone's heart by doing good deeds.

रहिमन मनहि लगाईं कै, देखि लेहू किन कोय।
नर को बस करिबो कहा, नारायन बस होय॥

अर्थ :  रहीमदास जी कहते हैं कि अगर आप किसी भी काम को जुनून के साथ करने की कोशिश करेंगे तो आप निश्चित रूप से सफल होंगे क्योंकि जुनून के साथ बस में नारायण भी किया जा सकता है।

rahimana manahi lagāīṃ kai, dekhi lehū kina koya.
nara ko basa karibo kahā, nārāyana basa hoya.
Meaning :  Rahimdas ji says that if you try to do any work with passion then you will definitely succeed because even Narayan can be done with passion.
